Privacy Policy
St James Ethics Centre (SJEC) is dedicated to the development and promotion of responsible and ethical business practices, and understands that privacy is important to you.
This Privacy Policy applies only to the Good Business Register and the website thehub.ethics.org.au (TheHub). The Privacy Policy for the remainder of SJEC’s website ethics.org.au is at ethics.org.au/content/privacy.
1 What Personal Information does SJEC collect?
(a) TheHub
SJEC’s TheHub is a resource for responsible business, including information, articles and forums. Some sections of TheHub can be viewed anonymously, but if you register with TheHub in order to participate in forums or receive newsletters and updates, we will collect your e-mail address.
(b) The Good Business Register
SJEC’s Good Business Register is a national register of responsible businesses, which is accessible via the Internet and includes basic personal information to enable consumers and other businesses to contact businesses on the Good Business Register.
In order to create and maintain the Good Business Register, we collect a variety of information from businesses. This includes the following personal information from representatives of businesses on the Good Business Register: names, business positions, business telephones and fax numbers, and email addresses. If you would like to have your business included on the Good Business Register, you will need to provide us with this personal information. We will not collect sensitive information about you (such as details of your race, political beliefs, religion or health).
If you choose only to browse through the Good Business Register or view content accessible from the homepage, you can do so anonymously and do not need to supply personal information to us. If you would like to access the full profile of any business on the Good Business Register, you will need to supply us with your email address [and any other information that will be collected for this purpose].
All personal information is collected directly from you, or with your consent, and our policy is to collect only personal information that we need for a particular purpose.
2 How is Personal Information used?
The personal information collected from you by SJEC is used to:
- administer your user account for sections of TheHub requiring registration;
- create and maintain the Good Business Register;
- refer profile access requests to you for approval, where other businesses request access to part or all of your profile;
- to provide you with information regarding events and opportunities relating to responsible business practices [, where you have agreed to receive information from SJEC regarding these]. You may opt out from receiving these at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of emails from SJEC.
3 Will Personal Information be given to anyone else?
SJEC will not disclose your personal information outside SJEC except if required by law.
SJEC never sells, rents or trade personal information to or with third parties.
SJEC only permits your details to be accessed by authorised personnel.
4 Access and correction
Under the Privacy Act, you have a right to seek access to information which SJEC holds about you (although there are some exceptions to this). You also have the right to ask us to correct information about you which is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. To request access to or correction of your personal information, please contact us - contact details are provided below.
5 Is Personal Information stored safely?
