Making the Way Clear - Mapping Reporting Frameworks

Survey fatigue? Which reporting tool should I use?

This following guide is a working document by and for CSR practitioners and will continue to evolve as changes are made to both the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 Guidelines and the Corporate Responsibility Index (CRI). It is an initiative of St James Ethics Centre and the CRI Leaders' Network.

The working party consisted of members of the CRI Leader’s Network (ANZ, BHP Billiton, EnergyAustralia, Toyota Australia, Westpac) and a number of key stakeholders:

  • Kate Niblock-Siddle, Australian Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Renee Hancock, ANZ, CRI Leaders Network and GRI Stakeholder Council member
  • Bill Hannan, EnergyAustralia, CRI Leaders Network
  • Anna Young, Ernst & Young, CRI validator since Australian inception
  • Rosemary Sainty, St James Ethics Centre
  • Katarina Persic, Toyota Australia, CRI Leaders Network
  • Glenn Campbell, Toyota Australia, CRI Leaders Network
  • Tim Williams, Westpac, CRI Leaders Network
 Making the Way Clear

Detail can be "mined" in the three PDF tables below. These should be of particular use for practitioners responsible for completing CRI and GRI reports.

  1. GRI alignment with the CRI Indicators
  2. CRI alignment with the GRI Indicators
  3. UN Global Compact – mapped to GRI and CRI

Have your Say! This website will provide and encourage an interactive forum for further discussion on each of the mapping documents we have included above. It is your feedback, comments and suggestions that will ultimately ensure that these documents are current, relevant and continue to inform responsible business practice.

Additional Mapping Guides

In addition to the mapping undertaken by St James Ethics Centre and the CRI Leaders' Network there are several other formal mapping publications available online – mapping the GRI and the UNGC and the GRI and the Earth Charter. Click on the links below to be taken to the GRI website where you can download these publically available documents:

Mapping the GRI to the UNGC

UN-Global Compact signatories can now communicate their progress towards the 10 UNGC Principles using a GRI-based report. This compelling publication articulates the mutually beneficial synergies between the UNGC and the GRI Reporting Framework, and provides guidance for how organizations can use both the GRI and UNGC.

Mapping the GRI to the Earth Charter

To respond to the increasing number of questions as to how the Earth Charter relates to other leading global initiatives such as the UN Global Compact and the Global Reporting Initiative, Earth Charter International, in cooperation with NCDO, has developed a Guidance paper. This paper is designed to help Earth Charter users – as well as those using the GRI Guidelines and the Global Compact – to understand the synergies and complementary strengths of these three initiatives, and to help organizations to integrate the Earth Charter into their global engagement and reporting processes.
