The Corporate Responsibility Index (CRI) is a leading business management and benchmarking tool that enables companies to effectively measure, monitor, report and improve their impacts on society and the environment. The framework for the CRI was developed by Business in the Community (BITC) in the UK in 2002 in consultation with leading businesses.
St James Ethics Centre has been the exclusive licensee of the CRI for seven years since its launch in Australia and New Zealand in 2003 - ensuring integrity in the tool's development and implementation. In 2010 following St James Ethics Centre's review of its various Responsible Business Practice Project elements it was decided not to renew the CRI licence.
On 27 September 2010, the 2011 Corporate Responsibility Index was launched by BITC, in cooperation with the Centre, as a Global Index run by BITC directly from the UK for all participating UK, Australian and New Zealand companies. BITC also offers companies a private confidential benchmarking service that is open for participation at any time throughout the year. Learn more.

The hallmark of excellent performance by a company is not just the results it achieves, but how it achieves them. The CR Index is our independent measure of how we’re going about providing support to our community and minimising our environmental footprint. It pushes us to improve our performance every year. Making the Way Clear - Mapping Reporting Frameworks
St James Ethics Centre and the CRI Leaders Network have completed a series of mapping exercises invoving the CRI Questions, GRI Idications and the UNGC Principles. The maps are available to download here. We welcome your feedback and suggestions on each of the maps. It is your feedback, comments and suggestions that will ultimately ensure that these documents are current, relevant and continue to inform responsible business practice.
